San Joaquin County accounts for over half the population of the 11th Congressional
District. The numbers reported on Tuesday confirm that I carried San Joaquin County
by a solid margin. I thank the people of San Joaquin County for their support.
Elayne, Madison, Jonas, Ariel, and Ben join me in thanking our San Joaquin supporters
for the many courtesies and kindnesses they showed us during our countless campaign
events in the Valley. We treasure their friendship.
At present, it appears unlikely that my margin of victory in San Joaquin and Contra
Costa Counties will be large enough to overcome the deficits in Alameda and Santa
Clara Counties. But we don't yet know for sure.
Given the protracted delay in reporting the results of absentee and provisional
ballots, and the fact that thousands of ballots still remain to be counted, pressure
to concede is unseemly. Every legitimate vote should be accurately counted. Having
waited three weeks for partial results, we can wait one more week for final numbers.
Likewise, we can't decide whether to request a recount until we know the original
district-wide count. As of now, no one does.
Since Election Day, thousands of supporters have monitored the counting of the ballots,
contributed to the recount fund, or otherwise helped to ensure that the will of
the voters is respected. On behalf of the entire campaign team, I thank each of
Best wishes for a happy Thanksgiving.
David Harmer is the Republican nominee for the U.S. House of Representatives from
California’s 11th District. His father, John Harmer, served as Lieutenant
Governor under Ronald Reagan. Early in his career, David took his expertise in constitutional
law to Pacific Legal Foundation, where he defended property rights and other freedoms.
David was also a Resident Fellow at the Heritage Foundation, and his book on education
reform was published by the Cato Institute.
The National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) has named David a “Young
Gun”—the top status in their candidate rating system. This top-target
designation assures that the 11th District will be a national congressional battleground.
